THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) has issued a warning of severe traffic congestion during the full rehabilitation of EDSA, which is set to begin at the end of March.
DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon stated that they are collaborating with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to mitigate the traffic impact.
“We cannot avoid the heavier traffic flow during the EDSA rehabilitation because this is not just a patch-up rehab like before. This is a full rehabilitation of the entire EDSA,” the secretary said in a report.
Unlike previous repairs, this project will cover the entirety of EDSA.
“We apologize in advance, but we will do everything we can, with the help of the MMDA and DPWH, to minimize the traffic,” he added.
The first phase will focus on the northbound lane from the Quezon City/Caloocan boundary to Monumento.
The rehabilitation is part of the country’s preparations for the ASEAN Summit next year.
