DOTr probes taxi overcharge at NAIA, operator faces penalties

admin June 16, 2025

THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) is investigating a taxi driver accused of overcharging a passenger more than P1,200 for a trip between NAIA Terminal 3 and NAIA Terminal 2.

The incident has sparked public outrage and highlights ongoing concerns about predatory pricing practices within the taxi industry.

The DOTr has initiated an investigation to determine the full circumstances of the incident and to hold the driver accountable for any violations of transportation regulations. The department is committed to ensuring fair and transparent pricing for all passengers utilizing airport taxi services.

The investigation will focus on verifying the passenger’s claim and determining whether the fare charged was justified.

If found to be in violation of existing regulations, the taxi driver faces potential penalties, which could include fines or suspension of their operating permit.

The DOTr is urging passengers who experience similar instances of overcharging to report the incident immediately, providing as much detail as possible, including the taxi’s plate number and the date and time of the incident.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of reporting such incidents promptly to help authorities address unfair practices within the transportation sector.
