THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) announced the seizure of ₱40.5 million worth of misdeclared vape products and other regulated goods at the Manila International Container Port (MICP). The three containers, originating from China, were falsely declared as containing kitchenware.
A 100% physical examination of the shipments on July 14, 2025, revealed 81,000 assorted vape products, along with sacks of fully refined paraffin wax and other misrepresented items.
The inspection followed intelligence gathered by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS)-MICP. BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno and other officials personally inspected the contraband. Warrants of Seizure and Detention were issued on July 23, 2025.
The seized goods are subject to forfeiture proceedings for violating Sections 117, 1400, 1401, and 1113 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), Republic Act 11900 (Vaporized Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Products Regulation Act), and relevant Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) regulations.
The BOC is actively pursuing legal action against those responsible for the smuggling attempt. Commissioner Nepomuceno emphasized the agency’s commitment to a whole-of-agency approach, combining intelligence, swift action, and legal processes. MICP District Collector Rizalino Jose Torralba highlighted the port’s dedication to anti-smuggling efforts, citing the health and economic risks posed by such operations.
