WITH health authorities easing restrictions on minors going out in public under the alert level system amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, police officials cautioned parents to monitor the activities of their siblings as two minors were arrested by operatives of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) in a follow-up operation in Camarin, Caloocan City.

QCPD director Brigadier General Antonio Yarra the identities of the two male 17-year-olds were withheld to protect them but it was learned that they are members of the notorious ‘Kulot’ robbery-carnapping group which has been victimizing several individuals in the northern areas of Metro Manila and parts of the nearby provinces of Bulacan and Rizal.

According to Holy Spirit Police Station (PS 14) commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bilaro, the suspects were nabbed in connection with the carnapping of five vehicles which were recovered in their possession along with a number of firearms and ammunition in Camarin.

Bilaro narrated that the duo’s victim, Jorrelyn Mirador, reported to PS 14 that her Toyota Ace utility van with plate number CSF 987 was stolen at around 8:00 in the evening of November 19 while parked along Republic Avenue in Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City.

A follow-up operation was quickly organized and traced the whereabouts of the suspects in Caloocan City, which resulted in their immediate arrest and recovery of the stolen Toyota Ace and seizure of a Smith and Wesson revolver cal. 38 with four live ammunition and assorted false keys.

During investigation, the minors disclosed the location of other stolen vehicles that further led to the recovery of a Kawasaki motorcycle with sidecar bearing plate number TX 4335, an Isuzu Jeepney with plate number TVX 594, a Honda TMX motorcycle with plate number 5051-XQ and a Yamaha Mio motorcycle with plate number UHG-277.

Both suspects will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10883 or the New Anti-Carnapping Law and RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
