Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – An estimated 6,000 students in Malaysia have been infected with influenza, prompting the temporary closure of several schools as a precautionary measure, according to an official from the Ministry of Education.
Education Director-General Mohd Azam Ahmad stated that the government is drawing on its experience during the COVID-19 pandemic to contain the spread of the illness. “We have reminded schools to adhere to health guidelines, wear face masks, and avoid large gatherings,” Azam said.
While the exact number of schools closed has not been specified, there are confirmed cases in various parts of the country. According to the Ministry of Health, there have been 97 influenza clusters recorded throughout Malaysia, mostly in schools and kindergartens—a significant increase from the 14 clusters reported last week.
