FORMER Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte requested a meeting with a consular officer from the Philippine Embassy in The Hague on March 13th.
According to the embassy, Duterte reported that he underwent a medical check-up, received medical care, and is in good health.
The embassy also requested the ICC Registry to facilitate a consular visit with Duterte and to assist with visits from his legal counsel and a family member. Upon his arrival at Rotterdam-The Hague Airport, ICC officials provided Duterte with contact information for embassy officials in case of any assistance needed.
Duterte also spoke with Salvador Medialdea, one of his legal counsels, on March 13th.
Earlier that day, Medialdea visited the Hague Penitentiary Institution but was informed that Duterte was not being held there.
ICC spokesperson Fadi El Abdallah confirmed that Duterte was indeed at the ICC detention center in Scheveningen after undergoing medical checks.
