GCash limits transactions to curb vote-buying

admin March 12, 2025

GCash has implemented temporary daily transaction limits on its “Express Send” and “Send via QR” services to combat vote-buying in the upcoming elections.

The company announced that these limits will be in effect until May 12, 2025. Normal daily transaction limits will resume on May 13, 2025, following the elections.

GCash stated that these measures aim to ensure a fair and secure election process.

“By preventing financial influence on people’s votes, we can ensure that the election results truly reflect the voice of the people,” the company said in a statement. “GCash will closely monitor transactions to ensure they are not used for illegal election activities.”

The Commission on Elections (Comelec), in Resolution 11104, has defined suspicious transactions related to vote-buying and vote-selling.

These include unusual transaction flows between accounts, digital banking and digital wallets, particularly large cash withdrawals exceeding P500,000, check encashment, during the election period, without underlying legal or economic justification or a commensurate amount based on the client’s financial profile.

The Comelec has previously announced stricter measures to combat vote-buying, vote-selling, and misuse of public funds in the 2025 elections.
