Rep. Paolo Duterte granted leave of absence amid father’s ICC case
REPRESENTATIVE Paolo Duterte’s request for a leave of absence to travel abroad has been approved, his office announced today.
The timing of the approved leave, following his father former president Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest on an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant, has sparked public interest.
Duterte has been issued a travel authority to fly off to the Netherlands and Japan from March 12 to 15, House of Representatives Secretary General Reginald Velasco confirmed on Wednesday.
While the specific dates and destination remain undisclosed, the office cited personal reasons for the trip. No further details concerning the purpose or duration of the travel were released.
Former President Duterte’s arrest on Tuesday, based on an ICC warrant for alleged crimes against humanity during his administration’s anti-drug campaign, and his subsequent transfer to The Hague, Netherlands, has dominated headlines.
