FOR Susan Ventolero Patton, every challenge became a stepping stone toward a life she once only dreamed of.
Raised in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte, she was inspired by her father from Dumaguete City, whose guidance and strong work ethic shaped her character. She landed her first job in a restaurant in Dumaguete before pursuing bigger opportunities abroad.

Determined to build a better future, Susan moved to South Korea, where she worked in factories and other jobs. There, she married and became a mother to a son. When her marriage ended, she faced one of life’s greatest trials—raising her child alone for nearly five years. Living as a single mother in a foreign country meant making countless sacrifices, even accepting jobs with little or no pay just to provide for her son.

Life changed unexpectedly when a friend introduced her to Dwight, a member of the U.S. military. Their friendship grew into a lasting love story, and after more than 20 years together, they now live in Washington, D.C., enjoying the life she once imagined as a young girl.

Susan also fulfilled another lifelong dream by joining the Mrs. Universe Philippines 2026 pageant at the Manila Hotel on June 28, 2026, where she earned the title Mrs. Universe Philippines Global Tourism 2026.

“I joined not to win, but to gain friends and build meaningful connections,” Susan shares. “Winning was never my expectation. I simply wanted to enjoy the experience and meet people who share the same purpose.”

Her advocacy centers on women’s empowerment, particularly supporting Filipino women working overseas. Having experienced the hardships herself, she understands the sacrifices of being far from one’s children, parents, and loved ones. “Everybody has problems,” she says. “We should help one another, lift each other up, and never stop showing kindness.”

To Susan, success is not defined by crowns or recognition but by the lives we touch. She believes true success is built through meaningful connections, inspiring others, creating opportunities, and using every blessing to make a positive difference in the world. Adding to this remarkable journey, Susan is proud and excited to receive her first 7th Philippine Faces of Success 2026 award—an honor recognizing outstanding Filipino achievers in the Philippines and around the world. She will receive the recognition on August 1, 2026, at the Camelot Hotel in Quezon City, Philippines, and hopes her story will continue to inspire more Filipinos, both at home and abroad, to pursue their dreams with courage, resilience, and purpose.
