Marcos could face House impeachment inquiry pending complaint review

admin January 27, 2026

PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. may be invited to the House of Representatives if a basis is found in the impeachment complaint filed against him, according to House Committee on Justice Chairman and Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro.

According to Luistro, the committee will first consolidate the two impeachment complaints before examining whether they pass the “substance and form” of the complaint. “Before we start, the complaints need to be consolidated because it is not possible for two complaints to be heard in the Justice committee,” Luistro explained.

Luistro said that the impeachment complaint is “sufficient in form” if it is “signed, verified and endorsed by a House member,” while it is “sufficient in substance” if the allegations are supported by evidence.

If the impeachment complaint passes the House justice panel, the committee will then invite the complainants and the respondent, President Marcos. The first complaint was filed by Atty. Andre de Jesus and endorsed by the Pusong Pinoy party-list, while the second was filed by the Makabayan Bloc in the House, namely Rep. Antonio Tinio of ACT Teachers, Sarah Elago of Gabriela, and Rene Co of Kabataan party-list. The primary basis for the impeachment is the allegation of corruption in flood control projects.
