Representative Elizaldy Co of Ako Bicol Party List.
FORMER Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co is facing a new plunder complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ) in connection with alleged anomalies in government flood control projects.
According to Justice Spokesperson Atty. Polo Martinez, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) filed the plunder complaint against Zaldy Co, stemming from seven new complaints submitted to the department.
Atty. Martinez clarified that this is separate from the initial five cases previously filed, which also involve allegedly anomalous flood control projects.
The six new cases related to flood control involve projects in Bulacan that were reportedly completed but were found to be non-existent.
This means that in addition to the five cases concluded last December, the department has received six newly added cases. Furthermore, the NBI has filed an additional plunder complaint.
The spokesperson explained that the timelines for conducting preliminary investigations on the complaints filed by the NBI with the DOJ vary. Some are still in the “reception of the complaint and evidence stage,” while others are in the process of respondents filing their counter-affidavits.
Among the respondents in the separate complaints before the DOJ are former Sen. Bong Revilla and Sen. Joel Villanueva. They face complaints of Direct Bribery, Corruption of Public Officials, and Malversation through Falsification of violations of Republic Act 9184 and 3019.
Former lawmaker Zaldy Co has until January 15 of the current year to submit his counter-affidavit.
