A GROUP of 61 Korean tourists were rescued after their motorized banca experienced engine trouble in the waters off Olango Island, Cebu, on Sunday afternoon, January 4.
According to the Coast Guard District Central Visayas, the MBCA Black Pearl, carrying the tourists, suffered engine failure. The banca drifted towards San Vicente, Olango, and sustained a hole in the rear hull after hitting a shallow area.
The Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS)-Olango received a report of the incident around 12:30 p.m., and Coast Guard personnel arrived at the scene at approximately 12:40 p.m.
Five speedboats and one motorized banca were used to transfer the Korean tourists to Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu. No injuries were reported in the incident.
