A PUBLIC school teacher was wounded after allegedly being shot by her estranged husband inside a school in Tanauan, Leyte on Thursday morning, raising concerns about the safety of teachers and the security of school premises.
According to police reports, the 48-year-old victim was already inside the Tanauan School of Craftsmanship and Home Industries when the 46-year-old suspect arrived and allegedly shot her in the right shoulder. The suspect then threw his firearm on the roof of a nearby building.
Responding police officers were informed by a student that the victim was taken to a hospital in Tacloban City for treatment. The suspect, who was found attempting to harm himself with a fan knife, was taken into custody. Initial investigation revealed that the couple was separated, and the suspect alleged that he caught his wife having an affair. The incident has shocked the school community and prompted calls for increased security measures to protect teachers and students from violence.
