ACTRESS Liza Soberano has become the subject of online criticism after sharing her thoughts on Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto’s appeal for non-violence during the recent protest at the St. Gerrard Construction compound, owned by the Discaya family.
Following viral videos depicting protesters throwing mud and rocks at the Discaya property, Soberano reposted Mayor Sotto’s statement, “Let’s Not Resort to Violence,” and added her own comment: “Totally agree with this. There is a better way to get our sentiments across without creating collateral damage to the people who are just trying to make a living for their families.”
This latter part of Soberano’s post sparked controversy, with some netizens accusing her of siding with the Discayas, who are facing allegations of involvement in anomalous flood control projects.
“Trying to make a living for their families???? Remember this Liza, the Discayas drew first blood,” one user commented.
Another wrote, “Before you meddle with our affairs, fix your ingratitude first!” However, other social media users defended Soberano, arguing that her message was directed towards the workers and security personnel who could be harmed by violent protests, rather than an endorsement of the Discayas’ actions.
As of press time, Liza Soberano has not publicly responded to the online backlash.
