A RESCUE operation is underway in the Red Sea to save the remaining crew of the Eternity C cargo ship, which sank following an attack that killed at least four crew members.
Security firms involved in the operation confirmed that five individuals—four crew members and one armed guard—have been rescued from the water after spending over 24 hours there.
However, the fate of the remaining 22 crew members and two armed guards remains unknown.
A spokesperson for the Greece-based maritime risk management firm Diaplous, involved in the rescue effort, stated that the search for the missing crew will continue until nightfall.
The official emphasized the aim for a peaceful operation. Maritime security sources reported that the Eternity C was initially attacked on Monday afternoon by Yemen-based Houthi militants using sea drones and rocket-propelled grenades launched from speedboats.
Two security sources further revealed that a second attack occurred on Tuesday night, forcing the crew to abandon ship. While the Houthis have not claimed responsibility, there are concerns that some crew members may have been kidnapped. The ongoing rescue operation highlights the dangerous conditions faced by maritime crews operating in conflict zones.
