LTO to investigate drivers in viral Tagaytay sports car race

Metrosundaily July 9, 2025

FOLLOWING President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s order to crack down on reckless drivers, the Land Transportation Office (LTO), under the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, has launched an investigation into a viral video showing six sports cars racing on a public road in Tagaytay City.

LTO acting chief, Atty. Greg Pua, stated that they are in the process of identifying all drivers involved in the incident, which he described as endangering the lives of other road users.

The identification process begins with the issuance of show cause orders (SCOs) to the registered owners of the six sports cars—two Mazda MX-5s, a Ford Mustang, a Nissan Z, a Chevrolet Camaro, and a BMW M4.

Atty. Pua emphasized that the registered owners will be held accountable, regardless of whether they were driving the vehicles themselves. He stated that the SCOs require the owners to explain why they should not be held liable for reckless driving and improper vehicle operation.

Upon identification of the drivers, a 90-day suspension of their driver’s licenses will be immediately implemented, according to LTO Intelligence and Investigation Chief Renante Melitante.

Registered owners are also required to submit vehicle registration documents and other relevant papers for review and verification. Atty. Pua issued a stern warning that reckless driving will not be tolerated, regardless of the type of vehicle.
