Donasyon mula sa pagmimina at pagtotroso, tablado sa simbahan

HINDI tatanggap ng anumang donasyon ang simbahang katoliko mula sa mga negosyanteng pasok sa mga anumang aktibidades na pinaniniwalaang mapaminsala sa kalikasan – tulad ng pagmimina sa mga kabundukan at pagtotroso sa nalalabing kagubatan.

Sa isang pastoral letter na isinapubliko ng Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), nanindigan ang mga alagad ng simbahan laban sa lahat ng uri ng donasyong galing sa kita ng mga kumpanya at negosyong nagsasamanatala, sukdulang patagin ang kabundukan at sirain ang natitirang kagubatan.

Kasabay nito, tinuligsa rin ng mga Obispo ang patuloy na pangunginsinti ng pamahalaan sa pagmimina at pagtotroso sa hangarin lamang makalikom ng pondo – kesehodang isakripisyo ang buhay at kaligtasan ng mga mamamayan.

“This is concerning as, while suffering from the impact of the pandemic, climate-vulnerable nations have also experienced intensifying calamities due to the instability of our biosphere,” saad ng CBCP sa izang pahayag.

“The Philippines, for example, was battered by multiple tropical storms including some declared to be the deadliest in the world from 2013 to 2021,” dagdag pa nito.

Kabilang sa mga tatablahin ng simbahang katoliko ang pagmimina ng coal at fossil gas, quarrying at logging. “These destructive industries only benefit the wealthy few but cause poverty and hunger to many.”

Kasabay nito hinimok rin ng CBCP ang ang mga financial institutions na itigil ang pagpapautang sa mga kumpanya at negosyong sumisira sa kalikasan at naglalagay sa peligro sa mga mamamayan.

“Through efforts by many members of the Church and civil society, we are now all the more aware that many of the financial institutions in whom we place our trust have been instrumental in the rise of fossil fuels, as well as other destructive and exploitative industries like mining and logging,” dugtong pa ng grupo ng mga taong simbahan. Nanawagan din ang mga Obispo sa pamahalaan na tuldukan ang pagmimina at pagtotroso sa mga kabundukan.
