A PHILIPPINE Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) Taal Volcano observatory resident volcanologist reported on Sunday nine phreatomagmatic eruptions from the Taal volcano as residents near the volcano started preparing for an evacuation in case of an eruption.
Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 2 which means that sudden steam or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, and minor ash fall can occur within the vicinity of the volcano.
“Mahihinang bursts lang ito na confined sa crater,” said observatory resident volcanologist Paolo Reniva.
Despite this, residents started preparing themselves for a possible evacuation.
“Naghanda po ako ng mga damit at saka gamot,” one of the residents said.
Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Agoncillo in Batangas said they had prepared pickup points and designated evacuation centers.
Entry into the Taal Volcano Island is strictly prohibited, Phivolcs warned.
