‘Scammer’ on fraudulent annulment services arrested by NBI team

admin April 2, 2024

AN alleged scammer who offered fraudulent services on annulment case was arrested by National Bureau of Investigation–National Capital Region (NBI-NCR).

Suspect Mark Figueras was captured during an entrapment operation in Quezon City and was subsequently presented for inquest proceedings for Estafa (Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code) and Falsification of Public Documents (Article 172 of the RPC).

According to the complainant, Figueras managed to collect ₱500,000.00 from her under the pretense of facilitating her annulment.

In an attempt to allegedly deceive the victim, Figueras provided her with a counterfeit “Trial Memorandum” purportedly demonstrating that her marriage had been annulled in a court in Zambales.

However, upon verification with the Clerk of Court, Regional Trial Court in Iba, Zambales, it was confirmed that there was no record of an annulment case filed under the complainant’s name and her husband’s.

Further investigation revealed discrepancies in Figueras’s claims as there is no RTC Branch 72 in Iba, Zambales, and no “Judge Federico Peralla Sr.” in any of the RTCs in the area.

Meanwhile, the complainant disclosed that Figueras instructed her to prepare for an “oath-taking before the Office of the Solicitor General in Intramuros, Manila.”

Subsequently, on March 20, 2024, a meeting was arranged at a restaurant in Quezon City where Figueras was apprehended by NBI agents.

The NBI-NCR continues its efforts to combat fraudulent activities and warns the public to remain vigilant against such scams.
