ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal – Less than three months after a landslide struck a community which left a mid-aged woman dead and 23 families homeless, a similar incident left a worker dead and four others injured after being pinned to death by falling rocks in a construction site in Barangay Sta. Cruz.
In a sketchy report, the Rizal provincial police identified the fatality as one Napoleon Bautista.
According to witnesses, Bautista was working at around 2:30 in the afternoon over the weekend when a pile of rocks rolled down from the upper portion of the construction site.
Immediately after the incident, other workers rushed to the scene and found Henry Ellar, Ramil Lachanebre, Sammy De Vera; and Jay Ar Dela Cruz.
They were immediately rushed to the hospital. Ellar, Lachanebre, de Vera and dela Cruz narrowly escaped death but sustained injuries, but Bautista who was found under the mountain of rocks succumbed to death even before reaching the hospital.
Sought for details via viber, a certain Lt. Mariesol Tactaquin from the provincial police information office sent a screenshot of her chat conversation with the Antipolo local police station, but told reporters that “taking photo and screenshot” is prohibited.
When sought for details, Tactaquin asked newsmen to gather information from other sources.
“Just wanted to let you know guys para maiwasan natin maging toxic dito sa GC (group chat), marami pong sources. You can go out and gather the information that you need… you can do research yourself, you can also interview the victim’s family of the deceased,” Tactaquin’s reply reads.
She also took a swipe at what she claimed as unbiased reporting.
