A POLITICAL instructor of the communist New People’s Army who is wanted by the law for murder, arson and exploitation of children in armed conflict was captured by the police operatives in Zamboanga City Tuesday afternoon.
PNP Chief Police General Dionardo Carlos identified the suspect as Romanito Sumasay also known as “Kumander Guzman”, 58, alleged political instructor of the terrorist group under the Kalaw Group and was listed as Lakewood, Zamboanga Del Sur’s Top Most Wanted Person (MWP).
Kumander Guzman was wanted for the following crimes:
1. Multiple Frustrated Homicide issued by Presiding Judge Felix R Rodriguez of RTC 9th Judicial Region, Branch 18, Pagadian City, Zamboanga Del Sur;
2. Violation of P.D.1613 (Arson), also issued by Presiding Judge Felix R Rodriguez of RTC 9th Judicial Region, Branch 18, Pagadian City, Zamboanga Del Sur; and
3. Violation of R.A. 11188 (Special Protection of Children in Armed Conflict) issued by Presiding Judge Analyn Costanilla of RTC 9th Judicial Region, Branch 30, Aurora, Zamboanga Del Sur.
The said suspect was arrested by the detectives of the CIDG Zamboanga Del Sur along with the local PNP units in Region 9 during police operations at Zamboanga Del Norte on December 21, 2021.
“This accomplishment is a strong indication that our personnel on the ground are determined to arrest lawbreakers and criminals despite our ongoing relief and rescue operations due to Typhoon Odette,” Carlos added.
