THE House of Representatives on Tuesday adopted House Resolution 2276, urging the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to release the monthly social pension of senior citizens on a quarterly basis instead of on the current semestral timetable.
It aims to offer additional support for the elderly who continue to suffer financially amid the pandemic.
Also adopted were: 1) HR 2275, urging the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, the Department of Health (DOH), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Education (DepEd) to allow the safe resumption of school sports trainings and the conduct of athletic competitions; and 2) HR 1396, urging the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability to conduct an inquiry, in aid of legislation, on the questionable receipt of private funding by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other government agencies. Meanwhile, the House ratified the bicameral conference committee report on the disagreeing provisions of House Bill 300 and Senate Bill 1156, further promoting the entry of foreign direct investments in the country.
When enacted into law, it would amend Republic Act 7042, as amended, or the Foreign Investments Act of 1991 to make the Philippines more accessible to foreign investors.
This seeks to generate employment opportunities for Filipinos and help strengthen the economy.
The hybrid plenary session was presided over by Deputy Speaker Weslie Gatchalian.
