DOUBLE Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo made a triumphant start at the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia, showcasing his brilliance in his signature events. Despite recovering from wrist injuries, Yulo secured top marks in the floor exercise and vault, captivating audiences with his skill and determination.
Competing in Subdivision 6 alongside teams from various nations, Yulo impressed with a score of 14.566 in the floor exercise, placing him second behind Great Britain’s Jake Jarman. He then dominated the vault, averaging 14.75 with a 14.9 on his piked Dragulescu and a 14.6 on his handspring Randi, leading the field. Expressing gratitude after his performance, Yulo said, “First of all, I want to thank God for my performance. I am also just grateful that I was safe (from any mishap). I am just really grateful that I got to compete, show my performance and come back here in a good state.”
Although unable to compete in the all-around due to his wrist injuries, Yulo remains focused on achieving his best. Gymnastics chief Cynthia Carrion expressed pride in Yulo’s performance, stating, “We’re proud that Carlos was able to perform well and make it to the finals of both events. This was our aim so, hopefully, he will duplicate his golden performances in Paris.” Yulo’s stellar performance in Jakarta has raised hopes for his success at the upcoming Paris Olympics.
