THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued a weather advisory at 5 p.m. on August 25, 2025, warning of heavy rainfall in several areas of the country due to a Low Pressure Area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon.
Heavy Rainfall Outlook Due to LPA:
- Today to tomorrow afternoon (August 26): Aurora, Quezon, Laguna, Rizal, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Masbate, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte (50-100 mm)
- Tomorrow afternoon to Wednesday afternoon (August 27): Aurora, Bulacan, Quezon, Nueva Ecija, Rizal, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, and Sorsogon (50-100 mm)
Heavy Rainfall Outlook Due to Southwest Monsoon:
- Today to tomorrow afternoon (August 26): Palawan and Antique (Moderate to Heavy: 50-100 mm)
- Tomorrow afternoon to Wednesday afternoon (August 27): Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Antique, and Negros Occidental (Moderate to Heavy: 50-100 mm)
- Wednesday afternoon to Thursday afternoon (August 28): Palawan, Antique, and Occidental Mindoro (Moderate to Heavy: 50-100 mm)
Pagasa cautioned that forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas and that impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall.
The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Pagasa Regional Services Divisions may issue Heavy Rainfall Warnings, Rainfall/Thunderstorm Advisories, and other severe weather information specific to their areas of responsibility as appropriate. The next Weather Advisory will be issued at 11:00 PM today, unless significant changes occur.
PAGASA clarified the difference between a Heavy Rainfall Warning and a Weather Advisory, stating that a Heavy Rainfall Warning provides forecasts for the next three hours and applies up to the municipal level, utilizing Doppler radar technology for real-time rainfall intensity tracking.
A Weather Advisory, on the other hand, covers a 24-hour period but is issued only at the provincial level and lacks the short-term accuracy of Heavy Rainfall Warnings.
