TROPICAL depression Romina, currently outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), prompted Pagasa to issue Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 over the Kalayaan Islands on Sunday morning.

At 10:00 a.m., Romina’s center was located 365 kilometers south of Kalayaan, Palawan (Pag-asa Island). The depression was moving north-northeast at 30 km/h, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near its center, with gusts reaching 70 km/h. Its central pressure was measured at 1004 hPa. Strong winds extended outward up to 200 km from the center.

By 11:00 a.m., Pagasa forecast that Romina, combined with a shear line, would bring rainfall across various parts of the country.

The Kalayaan Islands were expected to experience intense to torrential rainfall (>200 mm) from Sunday to Monday noon, potentially causing widespread severe flooding and landslides. Heavy to intense rains (100-200 mm) were predicted for the rest of Palawan, with a high risk of numerous flooding and landslide incidents.

Moderate to heavy rains (50-100 mm) were anticipated in Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, and Northern Samar, posing a risk of localized flooding and landslides.
