ONE person was killed and two others were injured after a 22-wheeler dump truck allegedly cut lanes and plowed into a motorcycle and three other vehicles on the southbound lane of C5 in Taguig City.
The incident occurred past 8 p.m. on Friday, according to a report by GMA Integrated News. The truck, which was traveling on the northbound lane, allegedly cut into the southbound lane, colliding with two SUVs and a motorcycle.
Two individuals sustained injuries and were immediately transported to hospitals.
“A motorcycle rider was rushed to the Taguig Pateros District Hospital due to a right foot injury. His bone was broken, and he was bleeding, so we immediately sent him to the hospital upon arrival. Another one, the owner of the car that was also hit, sustained a spinal injury. Upon the arrival of the ambulance, we sent him to St. Luke’s Medical Center,” said Vince Lopez, Assistant Barangay Administrator.
The most severely damaged vehicle was an AUV that collided head-on with the truck, becoming trapped between the highway railings and trees. The driver of the AUV was killed instantly, and rescue workers faced difficulties in retrieving his body. A crane and boom truck were needed to move the dump truck slightly to access the damaged AUV.
The incident caused hours of traffic congestion on C5.
The truck driver, who is now in the custody of the Taguig Traffic Bureau, refused to provide a statement to GMA Integrated News. He was alone in the truck and sustained minor injuries.
According to the barangay, the driver attempted to flee the scene after the crash.
“When he crashed and stopped here, the driver got off the truck. Then, maybe he was shocked, he went to the road, like he was trying to escape. So our tanod and bystanders chased him.”
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
