Heavy rains to continue until Sunday, Pagasa warns

admin July 3, 2025

THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has warned of persistent heavy rainfall across several regions in the country until Sunday afternoon, July 6.

This prolonged wet spell is attributed to the combined influence of a low-pressure area (LPA) off Northern Luzon and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat. Pagasa’s latest heavy rainfall outlook, released late Thursday afternoon, details significant rainfall accumulations expected over the next three days.

Specifically, from Thursday, July 3, to Friday afternoon, July 4, Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan are forecast to receive 100 to 200 millimeters of rain.

Lighter rainfall, ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters, is expected in Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Metro Manila, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro.

Similar rainfall amounts are predicted for several northern Luzon provinces from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon, while Batanes is again expected to receive heavier rainfall (100-200mm) from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan will also experience significant rainfall during this period.

Pagasa’s 2 p.m. Thursday update located the LPA over the coastal waters of Sabtang, Batanes, and noted a medium chance of the LPA developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

Residents in affected areas are urged to take necessary precautions, monitor weather updates closely, and remain vigilant for potential flooding and landslides. Pagasa will continue to issue advisories as the weather situation unfolds.
