TUBERCULOSIS (TB) continues to be a significant threat to people living with HIV (PLHIV) in the Philippines, with statistics revealing that 1 in 5 deaths among this population are due to TB.
PLHIV are more susceptible to developing TB due to their weakened immune systems, and if left untreated, the co-infection can lead to severe complications and potentially death.
However, HIV and TB co-infection is preventable through regular TB screenings, consistent adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART), and the use of Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment (TPT). Both ART and TPT are readily available at HIV Care facilities nationwide, making it crucial for PLHIV to access these services to protect their health and well-being.
