THE state weather bureau PAGASA has raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over 17 areas in Luzon as Tropical Depression “Mirasol” maintained its strength as of Tuesday evening.
The affected areas include Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, and parts of Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.
As of the 8 p.m. bulletin, “Mirasol” was located 170 kilometers northeast of Infanta, Quezon, or 90 kilometers southeast of Casiguran, Aurora, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph. The tropical depression is moving northwestward at 25 kph.
PAGASA forecasts that “Mirasol” will likely intensify into a tropical storm as it re-emerges over the Luzon Strait, potentially leading to the hoisting of Signal No. 2 in the coming days. Residents in the affected areas are advised to monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions.
