TROPICAL Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 has been hoisted over 15 areas in the Philippines as Tropical Depression Kristine moves over the Philippine Sea on Monday morning, the state weather bureau PAGASA announced.
In its 11 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA listed the following areas under TCWS No. 1:
Luzon:
Catanduanes
Masbate including Ticao Island and Burias Island
Camarines Sur
Albay
Sorsogon
Camarines Norte
The eastern portion of Quezon (Tagkawayan, Guinayangan, Buenavista, San Narciso, San Andres)
Visayas:
Eastern Samar
Northern Samar
Samar
Leyte
Biliran
Southern Leyte
Mindanao:
Dinagat Islands
Surigao del Norte including Siargao – Bucas Grande Group
PAGASA warned that the highest TCWS that may be hoisted during the passage of Kristine is Wind Signal No. 4.
Kristine is currently located 870 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph. It is moving west southwestward at 30 kph.
The weather bureau forecasts that Kristine will make landfall over Northern Luzon by Friday, October 25. It is expected to intensify into a tropical storm within the next 12 hours, reaching severe tropical storm category by Wednesday, October 23, and typhoon category by Thursday, October 24, evening or Friday morning, prior to landfall over the northeastern portion of Cagayan.
