AN inquest has been opened into the death of former boxing world champion Ricky Hatton, who was found hanged at his home in Greater Manchester on September 14.
Manchester South Coroner’s Court heard initial details of the discovery on Thursday, as the inquest was opened and immediately adjourned pending further investigation.
The court was told that Hatton, 46, nicknamed the “Hitman,” was discovered “unresponsive” by his manager, Paul Speak, at his residence. Police coroner’s officer Alison Catlow provided details of the discovery, noting that Hatton had last been seen by his family on September 12 and appeared to be in good health at that time.
However, Hatton failed to attend a scheduled event on September 13, raising concerns.
On the morning of September 14, his manager arrived at his home to take him to Manchester Airport for a flight to Dubai, only to find him unresponsive. The inquest will seek to determine the circumstances surrounding Hatton’s death and provide further clarity on the events leading up to the tragic discovery.
