Rep. Santos is also advocating for the construction of new access roads and alternate routes to decongest high-traffic areas.
LAS Piñas Rep. Mark Anthony Santos is pushing for a multi-pronged approach to address the worsening traffic congestion in Las Piñas City, particularly along major thoroughfares such as Alabang-Zapote Road, CAA Road, and the Marcos Alvarez Avenue.
According to Santos, the city’s lack of alternate routes, poor enforcement of traffic regulations, and increasing volume of private and public vehicles have made daily commutes increasingly difficult for thousands of residents and motorists.
To address the issue, Santos is set to coordinate with national agencies and the local government headed by Las Pinas Mayor April Aguilar and the members city council to implement short-, medium-, and long-term traffic solutions.
Among the proposed measures is the expansion and rehabilitation of key road networks, particularly Alabang-Zapote Road, which serves as a major artery connecting Las Piñas to Parañaque, Muntinlupa, and Cavite.
He is also advocating for the construction of new access roads and alternate routes to decongest high-traffic areas.
Santos also plans to push for the completion and acceleration of infrastructure projects under the “Build Better More” program, including bridge widenings and flyover linkages, which will help ease chokepoints in and out of the city.
The lawmaker further emphasized the need to modernize and regulate the city’s public transportation system, including the introduction of route rationalization and incentives for modern jeepneys and e-trikes that are more efficient and environment-friendly.
To ensure effective implementation, Santos is proposing the formation of a multi-agency task force on traffic, composed of the Metro Manila Development Authority, Land Transportation Office, the Department of Public Works and Highways PWH, and the LGU to oversee coordination, enforcement, and planning.
He is also eyeing legislation that will mandate real-time traffic monitoring systems and smart traffic light technology for Las Piñas, particularly in intersections with recurring congestion.
In addition, Santos underscored the importance of clearing road obstructions, illegal parking, and sidewalk vendors, which contribute to the narrowing of already congested roads. He called on barangay officials to strictly enforce local ordinances and maintain discipline in their jurisdictions.
“Solving traffic in Las Piñas is not an overnight task—but we cannot afford to delay concrete action. Every hour wasted in traffic is lost productivity and quality time for our people,” Santos said.
He also encouraged residents to support long-term traffic reforms and adopt alternative modes of transportation, including cycling and carpooling, while expressing support for future railway connectivity or the LRT1 Cavite Extension roject in the south of Metro Manila.
The very first they have to closed all stop light and road crossing, coz of this traffic congestion occur. Make U- turns which keep traffic moving in smooth. Its a simple suggestion only.
