REELECTED Leyte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, Speaker of the 19th Congress, paid tribute on Wednesday to former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos on the occasion of her 96th birthday, describing her as “a visionary who shaped history and inspired generations.”
Rep. Romualdez said the legacy of the wife of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. lives on through her lasting contributions to culture, diplomacy, and public service.
“Today, we celebrate a woman who embodied the grace, strength, and resilience of the Filipino spirit,” said Rep. Romualdez.
“Mrs. Marcos believed in the transformative power of culture and infrastructure to build a proud and united nation. Her vision elevated the Philippines onto the global stage.”
A nephew of the former First Lady, Rep. Romualdez emphasized that her influence continues to guide their family’s commitment to public service.
“As a daughter of Leyte, she brought great honor to our province. Her deep love for Tacloban and the Filipino people remains alive in our hearts,” Rep. Romualdez said.
He also underscored the enduring role Mrs. Marcos played in shaping the character and leadership of her son, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.
“President Marcos draws strength from the legacy of both his parents. We stand with him in honoring his mother—whose life was defined by service, vision, and unwavering dedication to the nation,” Speaker Romualdez added.
