FORMER president Rodrigo Duterte has given his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, his blessing to run in the 2028 elections, should she choose to do so.
While Vice President Duterte did not specify which elective position they discussed, her supporters have consistently urged her to run for president. She revealed this information during a recent visit to her father at the International Criminal Court (ICC) Detention Center in The Hague, Netherlands, where he is detained on charges of crimes against humanity.
Vice President Duterte recounted a conversation with her father about the 2028 elections, stating that he offered his full support, saying,
“He said if you want to run, then run. He said he’ll be the first to contribute and support you.” She further shared that her father expressed his hope to be released from detention in time to campaign for her.
However, she also shared her assessment of President Marcos’s prospects in a potential 2028 run, stating that she believes he would be unlikely to win due to his perceived lack of strong allies and the potential for his opponents to unite against him.
She added that she voted for President Marcos in 2022 but now regrets it, believing that he chose her as his running mate due to his lack of confidence in winning against then-Vice President Leni Robredo.
