FORMER Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez of Leyte on Tuesday said the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) is the best venue to tackle the alleged insertions in flood-control projects, noting that the fact-finding body is focused on facts and evidence rather than speculation and political noise as he vowed to return to the Commission if called again.
In an ambush interview after his appearance at the ICC, Romualdez expressed gratitude to the Commission and shared his personal knowledge of the budget process and its issues.
“Sa ngayon po, it’s about facts and evidence and hindi lang political noise or speculations kaya the ICI commissioners were able to ask me many questions and I was able to answer them, and I feel very, very happy and I welcome this opportunity,” Romualdez told reporters.
Romualdez said he appreciates the chance to present his side directly to the fact-finding body.
“I’m very glad that I was invited to the ICI to share my personal knowledge on the budget process and, of course, any information about the insertion on the flood control, that is the basis of my invitation,” Romualdez said referring to the first invitation of the ICI this Monday.
“I’m glad to have shared my personal knowledge on information with the ICI because I want to talk to the ICI in its investigation, to support the investigation, and the fact-finding to resolve the issues surrounding the concerns of the ICI,” he added.
When asked if he would appear again, Romualdez said he is ready to return whenever needed.
“I am ready to come back to the commission anytime I’m invited so that if I can share more information, I will do so,” Romualdez said.
Romualdez clarified that the Department of Justice (DoJ) has not invited him.
“I am not being invited to the DOJ,” Romualdez said.
