Sibulan, Negros Oriental – A shocking incident unfolded in Barangay Tubtubon, Sibulan, Negros Oriental, on Friday evening (Jan. 9) as a police officer allegedly killed three fellow officers and a civilian, according to a report from the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR).
The victims were identified as Sibulan Police Station chief Capt. Jose Edrohil Cimafranca, Senior Master Sgt. Tristan Chua, Patrolman Rey Albert Temblor, and Sheila Mae Dinanao.
Initial reports indicate that Staff Sgt. Bonifacio Saycon, a member of the Sibulan Police Station, allegedly shot Dinanao inside SAB Resto Bar at around 9:35 p.m. Friday.
Responding officers arrested Saycon, but while being transported to the police station in a Mitsubishi Lancer (plate number JDP 808) owned by Cimafranca, he reportedly shot the three officers.
Saycon subsequently fled but voluntarily surrendered to the Tanjay City Police Station at 10:40 p.m. He is currently in police custody and undergoing investigation.
Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, has ordered the activation of a special investigation team to ensure a thorough, evidence-based, and impartial probe into the killings.
