CEBU CITY, Cebu — In bringing government closer to the people, particularly to poverty stricken families, the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor – Field Operations Division for the Visayas (PCUP – FOD Visayas) has conducted feeding programs in several barangays in Cebu City that benefited 560 children and adults from the city’s urban poor communities.
In a statement over the weekend, PCUP chairperson Elpidio Jordan Jr. said that the program was the result of the continuing partnership of their agency with private sector groups who are willing to support the PCUP’s advocacy to reach out to the country’s urban poor. The activity was co-sponsored by PCUP-Visayas, Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP) Cebu City and Jollibee Group Foundation, which provided the packs of congee mix that were used in the preparation of ‘lugaw’ and supported by the homeowners’ associations of Top View, Quiot Hills, Sitio Tangke in Bgy. Quiot, Seaside Guinabsan UP in Bgy. Basak San Nicolas, KAPASAR and ISKP in Bgy. Budlaan, Spring Valley in Bgy. Binaliw and 1328-B HOA Nivel Hills in Bgy. Busay.
Jordan enthused that the PCUP will continue to perform its unwavering efforts in providing utmost service and assistance to the urban poor communities across the country in coordination with other government and private entities.
Meanwhile, a Basic Orientation Seminar (BOS) was also conducted by the PCUP-Visayas through area coordinator Maria Llura Layon with the eighteen members of the Helping Hands HOA at the Pagtambayayong Foundation (PFI) training center in Bgy. Kalunasan.
Layon said the participants were considered potential housing beneficiaries of the PFI, which owns the property that they are occupying.
“We will continuously intensify our mandates in lending assistance to the less fortunate through the accreditation of urban poor communities so they can avail of our services and programs that are meant to uplift their plight,” she pointed out.
