THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) orders an investigation of the RoRo vessel, MV FILIPINAS CDO, after it was reported listing while traversing the vicinity waters off Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental, at around 8:05 pm on November 12.
Based on the initial inquiry, while underway to Cebu, the RoRo vessel encountered a 10-degree listing due to strong winds caused by bad weather.
The Coast Guard Station Cagayan de Oro (CDO) reported that MV FILIPINAS CDO returned and safely arrived at the CDO Port around 11:20PM.
They assisted in the disembarkation of 448 passengers (all in good physical condition) and four rolling cargoes on board.
PCG Spokesperson, CG Rear Admiral Armando Balilo, said that PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan, instructed the Maritime Safety Services Command (MSSC) to investigate and check the safety procedures and protocols implemented by the shipping company and its crew.
“This is to assure the public that we value the safety of the passengers and as much as possible incidents like this are prevented, especially now that the Christmas season is approaching where maritime traffic is increasing,” CG Rear Admiral Balilo emphasized.
The Coast Guard Spokesperson also shared the PCG received information that MV FILIPINAS CDO listed due to unstable lashing of the rolling cargoes.
