THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) retrieved a suspected piece of rocket debris along the shoreline of Sitio Taburon, Barangay Balading, on Bisucay Island in Cuyo, Palawan, on Wednesday, July 1.
The discovery was made during regular coastal patrols, prompting authorities to secure the area immediately to prevent any unauthorized handling or disturbance of the object.
According to the PCG, its Maritime Security and Law Enforcement Group in Palawan has been tasked to conduct a thorough technical examination of the recovered material. This assessment aims to identify the specific components, condition, and potential risks associated with the debris, especially since such objects may contain hazardous materials or explosive residues.
While the investigation is still ongoing, authorities have yet to confirm the exact origin and purpose of the debris. The PCG stated that it will coordinate with other relevant government agencies and space-related bodies to trace where the object came from and whether it poses any danger to nearby communities or maritime activities. Further details will be released once the technical evaluation and inquiry yield clear results.
