AUTHORITIES have seized over ₱2 million worth of gasoline following a successful operation that led to the arrest of one individual suspected of engaging in illegal fuel trading.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Saturday that the operation, conducted in Ligao City, Albay, on Thursday, aimed to curb illicit activities within the petroleum trade and protect consumers from unfair practices. This bust signifies a determined effort by law enforcement to maintain market integrity and prevent economic losses due to illegal fuel operations.
The entrapment operation resulted in the apprehension of the owner of the establishment involved in the illegal trading. Alongside the arrest, law enforcement officials confiscated a fuel tanker truck, several large storage containers, and an estimated 1,000 liters of gasoline. The sheer volume of the seized fuel underscores the scale of the illegal operation and the potential impact it could have had on legitimate fuel markets and consumer prices in the region.
The arrested suspect is set to face charges for violating Batas Pambansa Blg. 33, a law that specifically penalizes the illegal trading and distribution of petroleum products.
PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. affirmed the police force’s commitment to combating such illicit activities, stating, “We will continue to act swiftly and decisively to protect consumers and ensure fair and lawful trade.” This operation and the subsequent charges highlight the PNP’s dedication to upholding regulations within the energy sector and safeguarding the public from the detrimental effects of illegal fuel trading.
