THE 15-year-old student who was shot by her ex-boyfriend inside Sta. Rosa Integrated School in Nueva Ecija has died, according to provincial police. Nueva Ecija Police director Police Colonel Heryl Bruno confirmed the victim’s death, which occurred on Tuesday evening. The 18-year-old suspect in the shooting had also died more than 24 hours after the incident.
On August 7th, the suspect entered the school and attempted to forcibly remove the victim from her classroom. When she refused, he entered the classroom and shot her before turning the gun on himself. Authorities recovered a .22-caliber revolver from the scene.
The Department of Education (DepEd) in Nueva Ecija has condemned the shooting, emphasizing that violence has no place in schools and calling the incident unacceptable. Sta. Rosa Integrated School has been temporarily closed. Students who witnessed the tragic event are receiving trauma support, and the police are coordinating with DepEd to provide stress debriefing for both students and teachers.
