PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. leads the distribution of various government aid to earthquake-affected communities in SOCCSKSARGEN at General Santos City on November 23, 2023.
The recent magnitude 6.8 earthquake has caused significant damage in various parts of the province, affecting around 8,576 families or 40,412 individuals across 77 barangays.
As of the latest data from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Office, a total of 4,299 houses have been damaged, with 576 being completely destroyed and 3,723 partially damaged.
During the program, President Marcos Jr. personally hands over various assistance from the DSWD. These include family kits and PhP10,000 financial assistance under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) Program, which is distributed to 250 beneficiaries with partially and totally damaged shelters. Additionally, food packs and financial assistance worth PhP2,000 are provided to 1,750 AICS beneficiaries.
Furthermore, he assures all the beneficiaries that national agencies will work collaboratively to maximize relief efforts for the earthquake victims until all of them receive the necessary assistance.
The Chief Executive also conducts a site inspection of the damaged City Planning and City Housing Offices at the City Hall Building and presides over a situation briefing for the latest updates on the situation in the affected areas. Attended by the local chief executives and members of the Cabinet, the briefing includes presentations on actions taken, as well as proposals for addressing disaster-related issues concerning highways, agriculture, and construction.
