LAPU-LAPU City Police are investigating a possible love triangle as the motive behind the murder of 47-year-old taxi driver Johnny Burdas. Burdas, a resident of Barangay Bankal, was found shot to death inside his taxi parked in a secluded area of Sitio Ka-Isko, Barangay Mactan, on July 2nd.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Christian Torres, spokesperson for the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO), revealed that Burdas had a relationship with a female student whom he was supporting financially.
Initially, robbery was considered the primary motive, as Burdas’s cellphone and wallet were missing.
However, the LCPO is now focusing on the love triangle theory after discovering Burdas’s relationship with the student.
Police believe someone may have reacted violently upon learning of the affair. Authorities have identified a person of interest (POI) based on the evidence gathered, including two shell casings found inside the taxi and a bullet hole near the driver’s seat.
While a POI has been identified, the LCPO is still gathering additional evidence to support filing charges. They have requested assistance from the PNP Cybercrime Unit to access Burdas’s Facebook Messenger account and are also working with the ride-hailing app where he worked to identify his passengers before his death.
