Dueñas vice mayor wounded in apparent accidental shooting

admin December 31, 2025

AIMEE Paz Lamasan, the Vice Mayor of Dueñas, Iloilo, is recovering in the hospital after being wounded in what appears to be an accidental firing at her residence in La Paz, Iloilo City, on Monday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 7 a.m. on December 30th while Lamasan was in the dining area with her live-in partner, Lord Byron Torrecarion, who is employed at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Central Office.

According to Torrecarion’s account, the vice mayor was handling her firearm when it unexpectedly discharged, striking her on the right side of her stomach.

Lamasan was promptly taken to Iloilo St. Paul’s Hospital, where she is currently receiving medical treatment. Hospital officials have reported that she is in stable condition and is being closely monitored by medical staff.

Police Captain Jeffrey Delgado, chief of the La Paz police station, stated that authorities were alerted to the incident by the hospital at around 7:30 a.m. Police officers are currently conducting a thorough investigation, including interviewing Torrecarion and other potential witnesses, in order to ascertain the precise circumstances surrounding the incident.

Iloilo City Police Office director, Colonel Kim Legada, has confirmed that the incident remains under active investigation. While preliminary reports suggest that the shooting may have been the result of an accidental discharge of the firearm, authorities are working diligently to verify this information.

Lamasan is a well-known and respected figure in Dueñas’ local government, known for her active involvement in community programs and public service initiatives. As of press time, residents and colleagues are closely following her condition as authorities continue to investigate the events that led to the incident.
