A VIOLENT domestic dispute in Barangay Tabugon, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental claimed the lives of a couple on Tuesday.
Marilie, 26, a housemaid, and her 30-year-old common-law husband, Fernan, a laborer, both perished from multiple stab wounds inflicted during a heated argument.
According to Police Lt. Col. Roberto Indiape Jr., chief of the Kabankalan City Police Station, the argument stemmed from Marilie’s desire to continue working in Bacolod City to contribute to home repairs. Fernan reportedly objected to this plan, leading to a heated confrontation that quickly turned violent.
The incident unfolded in the presence of Marilie’s six-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. The child, witnessing the altercation, sought help from her grandmother. By the time assistance arrived, both Marilie and Fernan had suffered critical injuries and were pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Investigators recovered several bladed weapons from the scene, suggesting the possibility that a sickle may have been used in the attack. Police noted that there was no prior record of domestic violence between the couple, and the motive remains under investigation. Jealousy is among the possibilities being explored.
The six-year-old daughter is now under the care of her grandmother.
