A MAGNITUDE 5.7 earthquake struck off Cagayan province before Wednesday noon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The epicenter of the quake was 17 kilometers northeast of Dalupiri Island in Calayan. It hit a depth of 17 kilometers around 11:35 a.m., Phivolcs reported.
The tremor was felt at a “strong” Intensity 5 in Calayan. Under this intensity, strong shaking is felt throughout buildings, while hanging objects swing violently, according to Phivolcs.
Intensity 4, which feels like the passing of a heavy truck, was felt in Lacub, Abra; Adams, Bacarra, Bangui, Burgos, Carasi, Dumalneg, Laoag, Pagudpud, Pasuquin, San Nicolas, and Sarrat in Ilocos Norte; and Peñablanca, Piat, Santo Niño, Solana, and Tuguegarao City in Cagayan. Strong

The tectonic tremor is expected to spawn aftershocks, Phivolcs warned.
