A MASSIVE 1,000-pound vintage explosive was accidentally dug up by a backhoe operator in Sitio Sogong, Barangay Ilawod, Camalig, Albay on July 21. The ordnance was unearthed while heavy equipment was conducting excavation work in the area, prompting immediate safety concerns and a swift response from local authorities.
Personnel from the local police and explosive ordnance disposal teams have cordoned off the site to prevent unauthorized access and ensure public safety. The vintage bomb is believed to date back to World War II, a period when large quantities of military ordnance were deployed across the province.
Authorities are currently assessing the device’s condition and preparing for its safe removal and proper disposal.
