PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) acting chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has removed Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo as the organization’s spokesperson, the National Police Commission (Napolcom) confirmed on Wednesday.
In a statement, Napolcom said that Nartatez made the decision because Fajardo was not in the proper office to serve as spokesperson, as she is currently the director of the PNP’s Directorate for Comptrollership. “The Napolcom chief likewise welcomed Nartatez’s move to relieve P/BGen. Jean Fajardo as PNP spokesperson, emphasizing the importance of aligning the post with the Public Information Office,” Napolcom said.
Nartatez explained that Fajardo is currently detailed with the Directorate for Comptrollership and therefore not in the proper office to serve as spokesperson.
According to Nartatez, a new spokesperson is not needed because the PNP Public Information Office, headed by Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño, already fulfills that role.
“The spokesperson, the Public Information Office, all of that is there with them. So all the repository of reports, it’s there with him. And he analyzes it so it will be ready to the public like you if you have any questions. It’s with him,” Nartatez said. “So why do we still have a spokesperson? He’s the spokesperson,” he added.
