AUTHORITIES at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 intercepted a Filipina passenger on Saturday attempting to leave the country with P1.2 million in undeclared cash.
The 61-year-old woman, bound for Hong Kong, was unable to present the necessary authorization or permit from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) when questioned by customs officials.
Under Philippine law, individuals carrying more than P50,000 in cash out of the country are required to obtain prior authorization from the central bank. The incident highlights the ongoing efforts to prevent money laundering and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
The interception of the undeclared cash underscores the importance of adhering to BSP regulations regarding the transport of large sums of money across international borders.
The passenger now faces potential penalties for violating these regulations. The incident serves as a reminder to all travelers to familiarize themselves with and comply with all relevant laws and regulations before departing the Philippines.
The Bureau of Customs continues its efforts to detect and prevent such violations, safeguarding the country’s financial integrity.
