THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has issued a weather advisory warning of rain over parts of Luzon on Monday, caused by a low-pressure area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).
The Ilocos Region, Abra, and Benguet are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the LPA.
Pagasa warns of the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall, potentially leading to flash floods and landslides in these areas. Pangasinan is specifically forecast to receive 50 to 100 mm of rain.
As of 3 a.m. Monday, the LPA was situated 85 km west-northwest of Bacnotan, La Union, or 255 km northwest of Baler, Aurora, according to Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina. Badrina noted that there is a possibility the LPA could develop into a tropical depression in the coming days.
If it intensifies within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), it will be named Auring and will be the first tropical cyclone of 2025. Pagasa assesses the chance of this intensification as medium.
